Pennsylvania Healthcare Providers Insurance Exchange (PAHPIX) began offering physician medical professional liability insurance in Pennsylvania in January 2003. In July 2005 New Jersey Healthcare Providers Insurance Exchange (NJHPIX) was formed, followed by Maryland Healthcare Providers Insurance Exchange (MDHPIX) in July 2006. PAHPIX started offering coverage in Delaware in January 2008.

On July 1, 2008, PAHPIX changed its name to Healthcare Providers Insurance Exchange (HPIX). Over the months that followed, NJHPIX and MDHPIX completed a series of transactions that combined their businesses with HPIX to form one insurance entity.

HPIX will be guided by the same business, claims and underwriting philosophies which have made the companies strong, reliable, consumer friendly and innovative. HPIX prides themselves on being the only company with an explicit strategy to hold down premium increases. This strategy was designed by their team of underwriters who bring many years of experience to the table. Their careful analysis uncovered three critical areas involved in containing costs: communication, early reporting and coordination of claim defense. With this knowledge, HPIX was able to develop a sound plan to address these issues and keep rate increases to a minimum.
